Do Canadians Keep Their New Year’s Resolutions?

5 Canadian National Parks Waiting To Be Explored

Did you know? The beaver was given official status as an emblem of Canada on March 24, 1975.

Featured on the first Canadian postage stamp, the beaver (Castor canadensis) is a herbivorous mammal. It is Canada's largest rodent and the second-largest rodent in the world (after the capybara). It is primarily nocturnal and lives a semi-aquatic life. The beaver is one of the only mammals, other than humans, that can manufacture its own environment. Learn more

Do Canadians Keep Their New Year’s Resolutions?

As we welcome in 2024, many Canadians are motivated for a fresh start with New Year's resolutions. Time2play asked 1,000 individuals from across the country the following question: “Which, if any, of the following New Year’s resolutions do you plan to make?”

Fitness and Nutrition Top the List (29.5%) 🏋️‍♂️🥗
The majority, at 29.5%, aim to boost personal fitness and nutrition. Following closely, 22.3% focus on financial goals, while 14.1% skip resolutions altogether. Only 6.6% strive for career growth, and 5.3% wish to enhance relationships.

Provinces: Commitment Levels Vary 🌍
Canadians, on average, stick with their resolutions for 4.7 months. Notably, Newfoundland and Labrador takes the lead, sustaining resolutions for an impressive 6 months. Meanwhile, Nova Scotia lags at 3.5 months, claiming the title of the least committed province.

Why Resolutions Falter? 😔
Despite the good intentions, 68.6% of Canadians falter in their resolutions. The primary culprit? Lack of motivation, cited by 48.1%. Other reasons include forgetfulness (14.9%), losing track (12.2%), and time constraints (7.4%). A few admit to setting unrealistic goals (4.1%), while 1.5% struggle with managing too many resolutions.

The Cost of Good Intentions 💸
On average, Canadians invest $252.12 in their resolutions. Whether it's gym memberships or travel plans, these financial commitments often go unrealized.

The Bottom Line
While resolutions may falter, the spirit of improvement remains strong in the hearts of Canadians. As we step into 2024, let’s celebrate the determination to grow, recognizing that each small step contributes to a brighter future.
